Johan

Johan was born in Bellville, Cape Town and spent most of his childhood in Pretoria, where he matriculated in 1968. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour in 1971 and was baptized in the Holy Spirit. It was here also that the Lord placed a calling on his life, which took him to the Apostolic Faith Mission’s Theological College.

Alta

Alta had accepted the Lord as Saviour at the tender age of 8 years old. From an early age, began to experience the Lord’s guidance in her life and she developed a love for prayer, especially praying directly from the Bible.

Family

Johan and Alta were married in June 1975 and were blessed with three wonderful children, Jean-Pierre, Tanya and DeWett.

Jean-Pierre is married to Genevieve. DeWet is married to Danielle.

After a long battle with ill-health, Tanya went to be with the Lord in November 2006. The Lord’s faithfulness throughout her ordeal has increased Johan and Altas’ zeal to serve Him.

ASAB HOUSEHOLD

Besides their work with Afmin, Johan and Alta lead a “household” ministry consisting of a group of spiritual sons whom they are fathering and raising through Biblical teaching and practical ministry, so as to prepare them to later father spiritual sons of their own. They also visit fellowships and other households within South Africa and Namibia, where they minister on subjects such as the Kingdom of God, Father/Son relationships, and the Orphan Spirit, to name a few.

AFRICA

EMIT (formerly AFMIN), is an organization which trains church leaders throughout Africa. Johan and Alta headed the Tanzanian, Kenyan, Ugandan and Namibian projects. Johan trained a young Kenyan pastor to take over the leadership of the East African countries. He and Alta currently facilitate the Namibian pastoral training, on behalf of EMIT.

MINISTRY HISTORY

Since completing Theological College, Johan and Alta have pastored various churches throughout South Africa. In 1984, they met Tom Ingles of Psalmody International, and began presenting this praise and worship course in various places. Teaching praise and worship as a lifestyle became the foundation on which their ministry was based. Then in 1993, Karel Saunders invited Johan to minister on this subject in Zambia, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Thus, began their association with AFMIN. In 2006, the Lord clearly directed Johan to resign his associate-pastor position in the church in Cape Town, so as to concentrate fully on the ministry throughout Africa.

ASAB RIVER

Asab, Asab, Asab – the sound of a rushing river is still audible in our ears. The sound of God’s voice in a specific time and season reminded us about the Kairos of God in our situation.

This was one of those precious times, when God spoke accurately into our lives.

We were travelling on the B1 Highway in Namibia, on our way back to Cape Town. Our hearts were desiring a special touch from the Lord as we had been waiting upon Him to answer certain prayers.

Unknown to us, God had planned a Kairos moment for us right there where the main road and railway line cross parallel over the dry river bed of the Asab River. Our attention was drawn to 2 small pools of water which bore witness to the long absence of rain.

While admiring the beautiful scenery, we suddenly heard the sound of many waters. The next thing we knew, a wall of water came gushing down towards us as a rushing flood, while we stood on the road bridge. It was a sight to behold, as all this water filled the dry desert river bed from bank to bank and rushed under the bridges.
We had arranged to spend a day or two with friends, Johan and Berdine de Klerk, on their farm in the Klein Karasberg district. About 350km from Windhoek, we made an unplanned stop to stretch our legs and take photos of a steel railway bridge.

At that exact moment, God spoke to me (Johan) saying: “Johan and Alta and everyone who relates or connects with you, your time of ‘small pool’ blessings are over. As these waters cover this dry river bed, yes even fill up the little pools with water, so will I fill up your little pools and cover them with My blessings.” We stood there in awe as we acknowledged the presence of God. We knew God had spoken clearly to us.
